Road House
Peter Doig (Scottish, Contemporary, b. 1959): Road House, 1991. Oil on canvas, 76 x 98 inches (193 x 248.9 cm). Private Collection. © Peter Doig © This artwork may be protected by copyright. It is posted on the site in accordance with fair use principles.

Over a career of nearly three decades, Doig has reinvigorated the medium of painting. His inventive style, sensuous palette and suggestive imagery set him apart from the conceptualism dominating much of contemporary art. A willingness to take up the challenge still posed by the paintings of Gauguin, Matisse, Bonnard and Edward Hopper places him in a long line of great colourists, expressive handlers of paint and creators of richly textured worlds.(© National Galleries of Scotland)
